The Satin Umbrella

As I'm drifting in the twilight of
another waning dream
I revel in the memories of all that I have
seen
A rain of golden teardrops fall on satin umbrellas
The sun
comes out and flowers dance, a million Cinderellas
The faces of a
day gone by surround me as I walk
They describe my life in simple
terms, I listen to them talk
A quarter moon hangs in the sky,
supported by a net
fashioned of the finest blue and trails from a
jet
The faces now depart from me, and leave me to explore
I
climb the net of blue and smoke, the moon provides a door
Once
across the threshold, I am in another place
Where stars are
drinking raindrops, stored in bottles by the case
They ask me for
a game of pool, or darts if that's my pleasure
Since I haven't
drank my raindrops, yet, I ask them for a measure
I take the glass
and down if fast, a wonderful elixir
Then something gobbles up the
room, a large electric mixer
I wonder what's become of all the
stars which shared my drink
The electric mixer leers at me, it
wants me next, I think
I attack it with my pool cue, I fight with
all I've got
When the mixer turns and slinks away, I line up my
next shot
With Pluto as my cue ball I send Neptune towards the
pocket
But the stars have been more clever, leaving Mars in place
to block it
Mercury banks off the rail, while Venus spins in
place
Neptune kisses Saturn, getting rings slapped in his face
I
leave them to their quarrel while I head back toward the door
I
enjoyed my glass of raindrops, but, I don't want anymore
While I'm
climbing down the net I see the threads of smoke are thin
The net
gives way, I grab the moon, hanging from his chin
The door slips
far above us as without the net we drop
But my satin umbrella
gently guides us to a stop
The flowers still are dancing like a
million Cinderellas
While I shake the tears of gold off of my
satin umbrella
